SMALL PAINTED CHEST |
What a fun find! I discovered this little chest at a local yard sale for $10.00. The old veneer top was split & warped and most of the finish was worn off. |
| Once the top was peeled off, and the rest of the chest was lightly sanded, it was ready for the paint. I decided to use the chest as a phone table in the dinning area, so it had to blend in with the celedon green & ivory color scheme. A base coat of flat linen white paint was applied, then I blended different shades of green FolkArt Acrylic Paint, with the linen paint, until I achieved the perfect shade of green. I added a little faux glaze to thin the paint. |
| The most attractive feature of this chest is the elegant detailed trim. To highlight this design feature, I used DecoArt Metallics, Oyster Pearl Paint. It was lightly applied, with a dry brush, over the raised areas. The flat surface on the face of the drawers was also given a light coat of the oyster pearl paint. The final touch was to paint the knobs with FolkArt Metallic Peridot. |
| This is one of those projects which turns out even better than anticipated. I hope this gives you the inspiration to paint some old and tired pieces you may already have, or find when you are out on a "Trash to Treasure" adventure. |
| RESOURCES: PAINT The first time I purchased flat linen white paint was at K-mart. It was part of the Martha Stewart Line. Since then I have had it mixed at Home Depot. If you let them know the brand, and name of the paint color, they can mix it for you. Lowes can probably do the same thing. METALLIC PAINTS Both FolkArt & DecoArt offers a wide array of metallic paints. You can usually find both of these brands at Wal-Mart and Craft Stores. If you prefer to shop on-line www.createforless.com has great prices. |
