 The pedestal of
this piece is made of plaster. When I found it, at an
estate sale, it was painted a vivid pink, and had been used to hold a
pillar candle.Once all of the wax was removed, I applied a couple of coats of linen white paint. Then, using the "dry brush" technique, I put on a light coat of three different FolkArt paints: Venetian Gold, Glorious Gold & Metallic Peridot, wiping off the excess between the different coats of paint. To further highlight the relief design, I used European Gold and Jade, Rub n' Buff tints, just on the raised areas. The final step was to spray the piece with a couple of coats of Satin Finish Spray Enamel. |

 The marble top
was found several weeks later. To my delight, the size
was perfect for the pedestal.The marble had a few light stains however, I was able to remove most of the discoloration using a formula I found on a "Cleaning Tips" website. The URL is provided in the resource section. The directions were as follows: "To remove stains, sprinkle salt on a fresh cut lemon. Rub very lightly over stain. Do not rub hard, or you will ruin the polished surface. Wash off with soap and water." |

| RESOURCES: LINEN WHITE PAINT The first time I purchased the flat linen white paint was at K-mart. It was part of the Martha Stewart Line. Since then I have had it mixed at Home Depot. If you let them know the brand and name of the paint color, they can mix it for you. Lowes can probably do the same thing. METALLIC TINTS Rub 'n Buff by Amaco is magical. Most Craft Stores only carry the silver & gold, but there are many more wonderful colors/tints available. I plan to spend a little more time checking out this site. www.mccallisters.com Their prices are not discounted, however, they do have a very good selection. Also, this is the only place I have ordered from. I plan to try the other places listed, and will update this page when I have more information. Comments: If you have never tried the Rub n' Buff products, you are missing out on a "Golden" opportunity. This product, combined with Folk Art Paints can turn very plain and ordinary items into real "Gems & Jewels". When you use the Rub n' Buff, it works best to apply it with your finger. The product has a wax base, so the body heat helps make the paint transfer more evenly. METALLIC PAINTS FolkArt has a wide variety of metallic paint colors.
