We really needed some additional storage in our dining room, so I was on the "look out" for the right size piece. I found this chest at an estate sale for $15.00. The piece was sturdy and the shape & size were perfect, however, it was painted a dark brown on the outside & light blue inside the drawers. |
|
| To rough up the surface, I used a coat of liquid sandpaper. Since the brown paint was so dark, two coats of primer were needed. The Final top coat used was called ecru, flat finish. |

To compliment the size and shape of the chest, I used lace valences, instead of panels, as my stencils. |
|
| The final step was to re-do the knobs. The main accent colors in the room are celedon, peridot, and emerald green. So, I went with a Metallic Peridot, and gave it a final coat of Metallic Champagne paint. Both of these paints are made by FolkArt. |

| RESOURCES: PAINT The base paint color, Ecru, was mixed at my local hardware store. You can probably have it mixed at Home Depot or Lowes. METALLIC PAINTS Both FolkArt & DecoArt offers a wide array of metallic paints. You can usually find both of these brands at Wal-Mart and Craft Stores. If you prefer to shop on-line www.createforless.com has great prices. |
