Old lamps are easy to find at yard sales, estate sales and flea markets. Every once in a while you may find a box lot of lamp parts at an auction or estate sale.

Lamp parts vary in size, shape & design, but there are certain basics. The base can be decorative or simple, marble, wood or brass. There is usually a center pedestal piece, which can be glass, ceramic, metal or wood. Most lamps have some type of spacers & of course, the shade. You may also find bobeches, crystals and prisms. The lamp is held together with a threaded metal rod called a lamp nipple.

If you decide you would like to repair a lamp or create a new lamp with your found parts, Lowe’s website has some basic instructions on "Making a Lamp".

Just go to: www.Lowes.com

Click the search box and type in "Making a Lamp".
Always use a NEW socket and wiring.
