It was very simple to achieve the rustic finish of this panel, I just placed it outside on the back steps. Our house is only one block from the Gulf of Mexico, so we have an abundance of humidity and salt air. It usually only takes a few days to get a nice rusty finish. If you live in dryer climates, just place the piece outside and mist it with water a few times each day. I use this piece as a trivet for a flower vase or planter. It is also the right size to hold a rectangular casserole serving dish.

Rub n' Buff is a waxed based tint, so in addition to adding beautiful color and lustre, it helps seal the metal protecting it from rusting. The best and most effective way to apply the tint is use your fingers. The Resource section below provides a list places where Rub 'n Buff can be purchased. The tint comes in 20 different colors. Although the tubes are only 1/2 FL. OZ., this product goes a long way.

RESOURCES: KING ARCHITECTURAL METALS This company offers an amazing array of ornamental metals & every thing you would need to create a wrought iron fence. They have three locations: Los Angeles, Dallas & Baltimore. They ship out the same day you order. Amazing! They do have a website, but do not sell on-line, however, you can order a catalog. They require NO minimum order amount. Their contact information is: 800-542-2379 or www.kingmetals.com PAINT The first time I purchased the flat linen white paint was at K-mart, it was part of the Martha Stewart Line. Since then I have been having it mixed at Home Depot. If you let them know the brand and name of the paint color, they can mix it for you. Lowes can probably do the same thing. CLEAR GLAZE Krylon Spray paint can be purchased at Wal-Mart. It is NOT available at Home Depot, they carry their own brand. As I mentioned above, most any clear glaze will work, I just prefer Krylon. METALLIC TINTS: Rub 'n Buff by Amaco is magical. Most Craft Stores only carry the silver & gold, but there are many more wonderful colors/tints available. The following are some Online suppliers I have located: www.createforless.com This place has great prices. www.framingsupplies.com The prices are very good and they also have many other unique supplies. I plan to spend a little more time checking out this site. www.mccallisters.com Their prices here are not discounted, however they do have a very good selection. Also, this is the only place I have ordered from. I plan to try the other places listed and will update this page when I have more information Comments: If you have never tried the Rub n' Buff products, you are missing out on a "Golden" opportunity. This product, combined with Folk Art Paints can turn very plain and ordinary items into real "Gems & Jewels". When you use the Rub n' Buff, it works best to apply it with your finger. The product has a wax base, so the body heat helps make the paint transfer more evenly.
