Miss Jacquelyn In 1999, my husband and I decided to make a major change in our lifestyle. I closed my business, we put all of our possessions in storage, and we hit the road in our two 1979 Cadillac’s. Over the next 32 months, we “Coasted” along the Gulf Coast, and the coastline of Georgia, and South Carolina. We traveled light; renting mostly furnished places, staying in each location 4 to 8 months. This gave us time to get a feel for the area, and explore most of its nooks & crannies. I would usually find part-time employment while David ran his businesses over the Internet. We called this adventure The Cadillac Caravan. For the full story on Click here. PARADIGM SHIFT
Making
the transition, from a life of scheduled
appointments, and
working 12 to 15 hours a day, to a lifestyle of "going with the flow",
was very liberating!
The biggest surprise, for me, was discovering that
we could live quite
comfortably without all of the material trappings
that we had accumulated, over the years, back in Phoenix. If we were in need of something, I would find it at the local thrift shops, or garage sales. That allowed us to travel light, un-encumbered by goals, schedules, and expectations. This freed up a tremendous amount of creative energy for both of us. After
almost three years of "Coasting",
we decided it was time to settle
down for awhile. We gave serious consideration to some
of the locations where we had lived, on The Cadillac Caravan,
but
we ultimately chose the place where our paradigm shift began,
Galveston Island,
TX, as our new headquarters. It is a truly Magical place! See for yourself: The Real Galveston DIRECTING MY
CREATIVE ENERGY
Now it was time to explore ways to channel my new found energy. First, I became a Trash to Treasure Junkie! My
love affair with Thrift
Shops, and Yard
Sales continued once we
settled on The Island. I
decided to turn my hobby into cash,
and began selling
many of my finds on
eBay.With a little TLC and creativity, a modest find can be turned into a real treasure. To share some of my ideas on how to turn Trash into Treasure, I set up a website: Miss Jacquelyn's Trash to Treasure. Take a peek, it may spark some new ideas! My
other outlet
was through photography.
It had been a hobby
of mine
for several years, and about half way through The Cadillac Caravan,
I got a digital
camera. After adjusting to the new format of digital
photography, I began taking more & more pictures. My favorite subjects were flowers, old houses, doorways, pathways, gates and fences. Most of the photographs used in the following Note Cards, and Matted & Framed art work were taken in the unique and charming cities of Charleston, SC, and Galveston, TX. SOUTHERN
